Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is being conducted in 12 states and three Union Territories to make the voter list clean and correct. Election Commission of India (ECI) is doing this to remove wrong names, like people who have died, moved to another place, have duplicate names, or are not eligible to vote. The voter list 2002 to 2005 is being used as the old record to check details.
During this process, voters must fill an enumeration form. They should give the details of one family member whose name was already on the voter list during the last SIR. If they cannot give this information, they must show a document to prove that they are eligible to be on the voter list.

FAQs on SIR Verification 2026
What is SIR?
SIR (Special Intensive Revision) is a nationwide voter list update and verification drive conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to make electoral rolls accurate, up-to-date, and inclusive.
It involves house-to-house verification, correction of details, inclusion of new voters, and removal of ineligible or duplicate entries.
Who should participate in SIR?
• All registered voters in states/UTs where the SIR exercise is conducted.
• New voters who have turned 18 by the qualifying date. Household BLOs (Booth Level Officers) visit to collect forms/verify details.
What documents might I need for SIR verification later?
During verification (especially if issues arise), the ECI has allowed various official documents as proof of identity/age/residence, including:
- Government-issued identity card (Central/State)
- Pension payment order
- Passport
- Birth certificate
- Educational certificates (like 10th/matric)
- Permanent residence certificate from a state authority
- Other official documents issued before July 1, 1987
Where can I submit SIR forms?
Offline: To your Booth Level Officer (BLO) during house visits.
Online: Through the ECI Voters’ Services Portal or state CEO websites (like CEO West Bengal, CEO UP, etc.).
What happens if I don’t submit the SIR form?
If you don’t submit or get verified, the ECI may carry forward your old details, but there is a risk of deletion if your residence can’t be verified later.
What is the fee to submit the SIR form?
Submission of the SIR form is free of cost.
If my name is not in the 2003 voter list, or if my parents’ or grandparents’ names are not in that list, will my name be deleted from the voter list?
No, your name will not be deleted just because it is not found in the 2003 voter list, or because your parents’ or grandparents’ names are missing from that list.
2003 voter list is only one reference document, not a compulsory condition. During the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the Election Commission of India verifies voters based on current eligibility, such as age, residence, and valid supporting documents.
