Tamil Nadu SIR Deadline Extended: Claims & Objections Open Till Jan 30

Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the last date to submit claims and objections related to the electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu. The new deadline is January 30, 2026. This extension is part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.

Earlier, in October 2025, the Election Commission announced that a Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls would be conducted in Tamil Nadu, with January 1 as the qualifying date. The draft voter list was published on December 19, 2025, and people were originally allowed to submit claims and objections from December 19, 2025 to January 18, 2026.

The Election Commission has now given more time and has asked all eligible citizens to use this extended period to check their details and submit any claims or objections. After reviewing the situation, the Commission used its powers under Rule 12 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, and decided to extend the deadline to January 30, 2026.
