Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday, January 22, 2026, gave the ‘whistle’ symbol to actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
TVK, which is contesting elections for the first time, applied to the ECI on last year for an election symbol under the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968. The party submitted a list of seven symbols from the existing free symbols and also suggested three symbols designed by the party for the Commission to consider.

The parties could also lose their symbols if they do not meet the requirement of a minimum number of candidates, that is, winning in 5 per cent of the total Assembly constituencies.
