As per the video shared by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar before National Voters’ Day, Election Commission of India (ECI) will soon start checking and updating the voter list in the remaining states and Union Territories of India. This process is called Special Intensive Revision (SIR). It was done first in Bihar last year and is now going on in 12 states and UTs with Draft Voter List published for all these states.
Election Commission started 30 new projects, and one of the most important was updating the voter list. Right now, this work is happening in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Goa and Chhattisgarh. The draft voter lists have already been shared, and the final lists will be released in February and March.

According to the Chief Election Commissioner, polls conducted on "this strong foundation" proved historic, recording the highest voter turnout since 1951 at 67.13%, with women electors registering an unprecedented participation rate of 71.78%.
This update in voter list is special because it is done after almost 20 years and the voter list is made fresh from the beginning, not just changed a little. Chief Election Commissioner also said that in 2026, a new programme will be started to help young people learn about voting and elections.
