How to Change Address in Voter ID Card Online?

If you have shifted to a new address, you can update or change your address in your Voter ID by following a few simple steps. During SIR 2026, if your address details do not match with the 2002 old voter record due to a change of address, you may receive a Logical Discrepancy Notice from the ECI.

Through the official ECI portals, you can submit an address change request online, upload the required documents, and track the application status from home. This online process is simple, time-saving, and helps keep your voter information accurate and up to date for upcoming elections.

Step 1: Go to the CEO Official Website, voters.eci.gov.in

Step 2: On the homepage of the website, you have to click on “Form 8” under the “Correction Of Entries” section

Step 3: To fill voter ID correction form you have to log in enter the registered mobile number and enter the captcha code then OTP received to verify to log in. If not then click on Sign Up button to registered yourself.

Step 4: On the next page you have to click on “Form 8 - Shifting of residence/collection of entities in existing electoral roll” and select the Self option and your EPIC number be displayed then click on submit.

Step 5: After that, your record will be displayed. Now click on "Shifting of Residence" then select if your new address within assembly or outside assembly constituency as shown in below.

Step 6: On the next page Form 8A will be displayed part wise. Part A shows State, District, Assembly Constituency, Part B show details of Voters and Part C enter the new address and upload the address proof for such change as shown below.

Step 7: After select the correction option then next section is declaration as the screenshot is shown below.

Step 8: After declaration, you have to enter the captcha code and click on submit button, and you will receive the reference number to track the application station.

How to Change Address in Voter ID Offline?

Follow these steps to change your voting address in your voter ID offline:

Visit the Nearest Electoral Office:

Head to your nearest Electoral Office to request and collect Form 8A, which is specifically designed for voters who wish to change their voting address.

Fill Out the Form:

Complete the form with the necessary details, such as your name, new address, and state. Make sure all the information is accurate.

Attach Proof Documents:

  • Attach relevant proof documents to support your address change request. These may include utility bills, telephone bills, or any other documents that verify your new address.

Review and Submit the Application:

Double-check the information you’ve filled in the form and ensure all required documents are attached. Then, submit the completed application to the Electoral Office.

Get a Reference Number:

Upon submitting your application, you will receive a reference number. This can be used to track the status of your voter ID card address change.

Wait for Verification and Delivery:

After the Election Commission verifies your application, you will receive an updated voter ID card reflecting your new address.

After submitting Form 8, Voter’s can check the application status online to know if their name is added to the voter list.

Step 1: Open voters.eci.gov.in and login using your mobile number, password and OTP.

Step 2: Select Track Application Status from the dashboard.

Step 3: Enter your reference ID number and click on Submit button.

Step 4: Your voter registration status will appear on the screen.

Following are the documents you require for voter ID address change: 

  • Address proof: Documents such as utility bills, bank passbook, driving license and all other relevant documents issued by the government.
  • Identity proof: Passport, Aadhaar card, PAN Card and other documents issued by the government.
