Supreme Court directed the Election Commission of India to publish the names of 1.25 crore people against whom a “logical discrepancy” objection has been raised by the poll body during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal.
Election Commission has divided these notices into three categories: mapped, unmapped, and logical discrepancy. Under the logical discrepancy category, officials found issues such as:
- Mismatch in the father’s name
- Mismatch in parents’ age
- Difference in the age of grandparents
Supreme Court said that objections to these names must be filed within 10 days. The Court also allowed additional time for people to submit supporting documents.
Court further ordered that if the submitted documents are found unsatisfactory, the concerned voter must be given another opportunity. Such voters should be allowed to submit documents again and be heard personally, either on their own or through an authorized representative present with them.
