Kerala state election commission has successfully conducted the local body election in two phase on 9th & 11th December and the counting of result is set on 13th December. This year, elections were conducted in 1,199 out of the state’s 1,200 local bodies.
Congress-led UDF, which emerged as the biggest winner in the local body polls, secured 505 of the 941 Gram Panchayat seats. It was followed by the LDF, which won 340 seats. The NDA and others won 26 and 6 seats, while 64 contests resulted in a tie. In Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the BJP won 50 wards, falling just one short of an absolute majority, while the LDF was pushed back to 29 and the UDF to 19, with two independents.
